Earth Day was last week. It was a day packed full of empowering messages and incredible conservation efforts. Communities around the world congregated together to participate in earth-healing initiatives — tree planting, picking up trash, rallies, lobbying.

But what happens the week after Earth Day?

Continuing the narrative surrounding Earth Day is critical. It creates a vital movement towards implementation of daily practices that promote a systemic healing of the planet. To do this, it’s important we begin to evaluate how our day-to-day decisions affect the world we live in. One key evaluation is considering how our food choices impact the planet.

Some even believe the decision of “what should I eat today?” has the potential to save the planet, or run it into the ground.

Earth-friendly food

But what if we, as consumers, have done everything we can do to ensure we are choosing foods that promote the Earth's health? This is where our friendly food innovators play a major role in creating options that are kind to the earth, accessible, and tasty — products that are sourced from environmentally conscious farmers, are packaged in planet-friendly materials, that help minimize food waste, decrease the use of foods with a high carbon footprint, or incorporate ingredients made in the USA.

Today, these food creators aren’t just hypothetical food unicorns that exist in some hippy utopia. They exist — we met them! We have proof (see video). They’re charged up and they recognize the role food companies play in the degradation of our earth. They’re continuing critical Earth Day conversations to incorporate the Earth’s health into everyday discussions and action.

What did we learn?

Bottom line: Earth Day isn’t just about protecting the planet for a day, or a week, or a month. It’s about creating actionable ways to integrate Earth-friendly practices into a lifestyle that restores the environment. This includes our food choices.

If anything, our conversations taught us that together we can heal the planet, one bite at a time.
